An introduction to cob building workshop will take place at Derrycrusson, Scotstown on Saturday 28th May from 10am to 4.30pm, on the site of a hand built modern mudhouse currently under construction. Cob is a mix of clay, straw and sand. The clay was dug onsite and used from previous excavations while the stone was reused from an derelict house taken down to allow for replacement dwelling planning. The wall plates and window lintels are oak, while the window sills are Portland stone. Work is ongoing in 2022 with the roof being erected and an aim to lime plaster externally this year. Saturday’s workshop will explain how to mix and use cob as a building material. Participants will have the chance to build a small structure for themselves on the day. Spaces are limited to ensure participants get plenty of hands on experience. Bookings can be made through the website
