Cornagilta School 1859 designed by architect Francis Turner Palgrave 1824 – 1897

Work is progressing slowly at Cornagilta School, with the scaffolding and safety hoarding up, and the ESB on site last Monday to make safe the electric cables in advance of the repairs. Thanks to Denis Meehan, Brendan McCrudden and Paudge McCarron who were volunteering onsite last Saturday; we welcome any help that’s offered however small the time given. We have a site meeting with heritage expert Noel Carney this week, we are very appreciative of his advice and help. The 1859 school is a wonderful heritage building, but this Phase 1 of the work is only to carry out emergency repairs like stonework pointing and replacing the fascia boards with the funding we got from the Heritage Council and Monaghan Co Co for which we are very grateful. If anyone would like to assist the project, contact Marie McQuillan.
