There was a lovely item in the post last week for Tydavnet lady Patricia Cavanagh, Tullyvogey, and the package contained a Leaving Cert book “Poetry Now 2023” by CJ Fallon publishers. The book was of special interest to Patricia, not because she’s going to study English poetry, but because one of her photos was selected by the publishers to be an illustration in the volume. The image was to accompany the poem “Inniskeen Road, July Evening” (1936) by Patrick Kavanagh, and Patricia’s lovely picture was snapped at the Inniskeen Road Festival in the village a few years ago. A member of the publication team saw the image on Tydavnet website, and made enquiries there about how to contact the photographer and seek permission for it’s use in the book. It is indeed a fine image, and captures the Inniskeen countryside perfectly. It’s not the first time that Patricia’s expert eye has produced images for national media, but it’s a great picture, and for the students it’ll bring the essence of the poem on page 248 a lot closer to them. Well done Patricia, great to see your lovely image and name in the book.
