The problem of dumping at the bring banks at Urbleshanny Chapel was highlighted over the weekend where hundreds of glass bottles and jars were dumped beside bring banks which were already full. The place was a disgrace! Leaving bags and boxes at the bring bank is not recycling; it is littering. If a recycling bank happens to be full please return with your recyclables another day. Bring centres are provided solely for the use of householders, and not for the commercial sector. Even when bring banks are full, it is illegal to leave your waste next to them, and people littering may be prosecuted and face an on-the-spot fine of €150. This type of behaviour can attract further indiscriminate dumping, not just of glass but of household waste as well. Covert cameras are being employed on various bring banks by Monaghan Co Co to counteract the problem.
