Dr. Breandán Ó Caoimh is the keynote speaker for Co Monaghan Public Participation Network (PPN) AGM on Tuesday 3rd December 2019, starting at 7pm in the Glencarn Hotel, Castleblayney. He will talk about Wellbeing – the role and potential of communities.
Wellbeing and wellness are very much on the agenda of community and voluntary groups. Wellbeing is frequently associated with health, particularly mental health. The talk will note and celebrate the significance and importance of the community and voluntary sector, and will argue that public policy and agencies need to be more supportive of community empowerment and wellbeing. In practical terms, this includes ensuring that communities have more power in local decision-making and are enabled to be creative, flexible, responsive and innovative. It also implies promoting social inclusion and participation by youth, migrants and others who are currently underrepresented in civil society. The talk will present examples from other places, and consider if these may be applied in County Monaghan.
Also speaking on the night will be Patricia Monahan, Director of Services at Monaghan County Council. Mulled Wine and Mince Pie reception, it is hoped that many of our community and voluntary groups will be in attendance on the night.
