The community welcomes Bishop Larry Duffy to Tydavnet parish on Sunday 1st December, when he will celebrate the 11.30am Mass in St Mary’s Urbleshanny. The special occasion will be the installation of Fr Stephen Joyce as Parish Priest of Tydavnet. Fr Joyce will replace Rev Brian Early who is retiring, and who takes up a new position as Pastor Emeritus and curate in the same parish.

Fr Joyce is a native of Carrickmacross parish, and was ordained in 1989. He has served on the teaching staff of St Macartan’s College, Monaghan, as well as in the parishes of Ballybay and Tullycorbet, Cleenish, Co Fermanagh, and Monaghan and Rackwallace. He has also been a chaplain to the secondary schools in Monaghan town.

The Ceremony of Induction is an occasion when a new Parish Priest is formally presented to the parish in a liturgical context. The ceremony is so arranged to remind priest and people of their responsibility together before God to serve Christ in his Church, and by their holiness and the example of their lives, individually and as a local community, to promote the mission of their Lord. The installation ceremony is in three parts – Fr Joyce will formally declare his determination and firm resolution to carry out all his duties faithfully and religiously.  In the second part he will make a Profession of Faith, and promise Fidelity to the Church – the Body of Christ. Then he will receive the keys to the Church from the Bishop, as a sign of the new powers which he now possesses. This is Bishop Larry’s first opportunity to be amongst us, and we extend him a very hearty and sincere “Céad Míle Fáilte”. A warm welcome is extended to all to come along and share in this historic celebration in our Parish.
