Trip to Wexford: This trip to Ferrycarrig in Wexford will take place on September 23rd 24th and 25th. One double/twin room is still available. The cost is €320 per person sharing and covers Bed, Breakfast, Dinner and day trips. Text 087 343 2275 if you wish to avail of this opportunity.
Day 1: Depart Monaghan at 9.30 a.m. from McNally’s Car Park, across from Shopping Centre. Lunch at The Poitin Still. Visit Dunbrody Famine Ship and Museum in New Ross. Check into Ferrycarrig Hotel .
Dinner at 7.00 p.m.
Day 2: Visit Johnstown Castle and Gardens and also Irish Agricultural Museum.
Day 3: Visit Hook Lighthouse and the beautiful seaside town of Tramore.
Day 4: Depart Hotel. Visit Newbridge Silverware and Museum of Style Icons. Dinner in The Hunterstown Inn, Ardee.
Walk: The walk on Wednesday, September 11th will be to Parkanure. Meet at Corracrin Car Park at 10.00 a.m. This week’s walk will take place on Wednesday, September 18th to Emy Lough. Meet at Lough Car Park at 10.30 a.m.
Choir:The U3A Choir resumed on Tuesday, September 3rd at Monaghan United Soccer Club in Gortakeegan from 10.45 to 12.30. and will continue on Tuesdays. New members welcome.
Pilates: Pilates on Mondays from 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. and 3.15 to 4.15. at Gortakeegan, also on Thursdays from 2.00 to 3.00 p.m. beginning on September 12th . Those classes are now full. Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes early for each of the classes to facilitate signing in and collecting money.
Spanish: Spanish classes will recommence on Wednesday September 18 in Gortakeegan from 2.30 to 4.00 p.m. Please note change of venue. More information on French & Irish Classes when it becomes available.
Art Classes: Art Classes with Cecilia Richardson will begin on Wednesdays September 18th , from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. and Fridays from 10.30 to 12.00 noon, in the ETB Rooms behind St.Mary’s Boys School. Both classes are now full.
Flower Arranging: Three classes will take place in Gortakeegan on the following Wednesdays, October 23rd, November 6th and November 27th from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m.
Cards: If you are interested in playing 45, which we hope to begin on Wednesday October 23rd, please contact Louis on 047 78117 or 086 877 9466 stating your preference for Tydavnet or Gortakeegan as a venue.
Monthly Talk: The Monthly Talk will take place on Friday, September 27th at Gortakeegan at 11.00 a.m. Guest Speaker is John Woods of Linwood’s Bakery and Products. Tea/Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
Contribution: Please note that a contribution of €3 will be collected for all Classes with the exception of; Monthly Talk, Weekly Walk and Book Club. This is to help defray the expenses involved.
Book Club: The next Book Club meeting will take place at The Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, on Thursday, September 26th at 2.30 p.m. The book we are currently reading is The Choice by Edith Eger, a true story of an amazing woman, who at the age of 16 was imprisoned in Auschwitz along with her family. She miraculously survived, and lives in The States. The theme is simple and profound. We have a choice to stay imprisoned by our trauma or confront our suffering. Should be still available in Monaghan Library. New members always welcome.
Poems and Pints: This will resume on October 3rd in Maggie Charlie’s around 8.00 p.m. New members welcome.
Dates for your Diary: A Party, celebrating U3A’s 10th Anniversary will be held in Gortakeegan on Thursday, October 24th . Music by Michael McGorman.
Fitness for Seniors: This 6 Week Programme will be led by Fiona Gilliland and will take place in October in Gortakeegan. Dates will be available shortly.
Oklahoma trip: A trip has been arranged to The National Concert Hall to see the musical Oklahoma on Saturday, November 16th. If you are interested text 083 324 44 55. A new class in Music Appreciation will commence shortly in The Cathedral Rooms. More information next week.
