Digger work has commenced to erect a mill wheel on the river in Ballinode village, a nod to the proud tradition of mills in the Ballinode area down the years. The finished millwheel will include inlet and outlet filtered sluices, and the walling for these will match the existing stonework. Damming of the work area has been completed, and the works will be in accordance with the Fisheries Act, so fish passage conditions will not be disturbed. All instream works will be completed by the end of the summer. It’s a great project to enhance our village and to celebrate our heritage.
