Canon John McElroy

The death has been announced of Reverend Canon John McElroy, Glasgow, Scotland, and late of Tonysillago, Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan on Saturday, 13th April peacefully in Scotland, in the 63rd year of his Ministry. Predeceased by his brothers Eddie (Tonysillago) and Jimmy (Doogary), and his nephew Eamonn, sadly missed by his sister Maureen McKenna, Drumacaslan, Ballinode, Co. Monaghan, sisters in law Molly and Lizzie, nephews, nieces, and his parish community.

Fortified by the Rites of the Holy Church, resident in the Holy Rosary Residence under the care of the Little Sisters in Greenock.  Reception and vigil prayers at St. Mary’s RC Church on Tuesday 16th April at 7pm. Morning Prayer at 11am on Wednesday 17th April, followed by Requiem Mass concelebrated by Bishop John Keenan and priests of Paisley Diocese at 12 noon in St. Mary’s Presbytery, 163 Georges Street, Paisley, Glasgow. Burial afterwards to St Conval’s Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

    A great man and one I’ll never forget. When my brothers and I were young he took us to watch Dundalk play Celtic in Oriel Park. With his influence at Celtic FC he even managed to get us all into the Celtic dressing room after the game to meet all the players. RIP Fr. John
