Ballinode ICA has been very busy over the last few months. We are taking part in the “Tentacles for Tinies” Project for the Rotunda Hospital. Breda Caulfield and Mary Sherry have been busy teaching members to crochet and there are lots of knitted and crochet items now ready to go to the Rotunda Hospital for the premature baby unit. We hope to have all our items on display in Tydavnet CC on Sunday 16th December. This course (project) is supported by the Department of Education and skills through CMETB.  The Community Centre Draw also takes place on the same day so all welcome.

Gill & Macmillan hope to publish another book with ICA called the Irish Countrywomen’s Association Book of Bread and Baking. There is a callout for recipes so get those recipes into head office before mid January please. 21 members enjoyed a great Christmas night out in The Garage Theatre on Saturday 8th December where we were entertained by Frankie’s Guys a celebration of Frankie Vallie and the 4 Seasons. Earlier on Sunday 2nd December a group of us went to the Christmas Markets in Belfast and enjoyed a day of leisure going around the seasonal stalls outside City Hall and also St Georges Market. Thanks to Ann McArdle for supplying the bus.

We congratulate Magheracloone Guild on celebrating 50 years in ICA in October past. Our November meeting concluded with a talk from Pat Holland on different aspects of gardening. It was a most enjoyable talk with Pat sharing plenty of tips and anecdotes about the growing of seedlings and he had some beans and garlic for members to take home and try. At our October meeting votes of sympathy were expressed with Patricia Deery and Loretta McCague on the death of their grandnephew, David Treanor; Marie McAree on the death of her sister –in –law Paula Treanor and Sheila McCarron, Murray and Evelyn Fisher on the death of their uncle Michael McKenna. A minutes silence was observed. At our November meeting there was a vote of sympathy with the McCabe family on the death of Phillip. Phillip was with our guild at least twice talking on Citizens Information. Next meeting takes place on Thursday 13th December at 8pm In Tydavnet Community Centre. We hope to have some festive fun reminiscing on Christmas past and a fun table quiz is also taking place. New members welcome.
