Cyclist Declan Brassil (pictured below) is beginning the ‘WOW’ Cyclothon Around Iceland, a 1,400 km solo race that must be completed within 72 hours on Tuesday June 26th 2018 in aid of little Katie Hughes from Emyvale. Two year old Katie is the beloved only child of Padraig and Gráinne Hughes, and on 29th May 2018 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Immediately Katie began treatment in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. She will continue to undergo chemotherapy and steroid treatment in Dublin for another six months. Following that it is expected that she will undergo maintenance treatment for a further twelve to eighteen months. Katie is a fun-loving, happy, energetic and brave little girl. Needless to say her diagnosis has shattered Padraig and Gráinne’s lives. Katie is being treated in the St. John’s Ward in Crumlin and money raised during this campaign will be very generously donated by Padraig and Gráinne to St John’s Ward so that Katie and other children in her situation can continue to receive the treatment they require in the difficult months ahead. Your support is very much appreciated, a “Go Fund Me” link is available for donations…..https://www.gofundme.com/race-around-iceland-for-katie
