Singing star Gloria turned out in Scotstown on Monday 11th June to launch the “One step at a time” initiative. The star who is famous for “One day at a a time” said she was delighted to back the project – she understands the importance of getting out and about, meeting with others, and “clearing your head”. The new walking group is for everyone – you never need an excuse again – this club’s for YOU!
The aim is to get people out walking – it’s for people who would like to get back to walking, take up walking for the first time, or just get moving with family or friends, grandchildren or neighbours…. starting simple, one step at a time. There’s lots of clubs for the fit and fast – this group is not necessarily for them, this is for everyone else. It’s hoped to get more people getting the benefit of walking – at any speed, for any wee distance at all – and perhaps everyone will come along to enjoy the fun of the Ned Run on Friday 3rd August in Scotstown. Anyone who feels they are not fit to tackle that event is invited to come and just do a short walk instead, and join in the community barbecue and music event at the Complex later. There is no charge for the events leading up to the Ned Run – this is solely about getting more people enjoying a walk. Do come along and be part of it, then follow it up with a walk – it doesn’t have to be every day, but do plan to complete at least a few walks per week.
The “One Step at a Time” group will be meeting at Kilmore Running Track on Tuesday 12th June @ 8.30pm to go for a short walk and discuss what times/days etc suit people to get out walking. There is absolutely no pressure on anyone. We just want to get the Tydavnet Parish moving – “One Step at a Time”. Come along and encourage your friends to get moving too.
