Salmon and candy, two words that don’t often go together, unless you’re in Canada. Up and coming food business Sheskin Smoked Salmon from Scotstown has just recently started producing delightful Candied Smoked Salmon, and hey, it’s delicious. This high protein snack has long been a favourite of indigenous Canadian communities and it’s jam-packed with flavour. Sheskin’s salmon is brown sugar cured and hot smoked which results in a sweet and savoury product with an almost cooked like texture. It’s a perfect snack on it’s own, perfect for salads, elegant appetizers, or served with a nice piece of fresh wheaten bread (if you can stop at just one piece!). At the moment, it’s just available in “Sole and Sea” fishmongers in Castleblayney, supporting Owen in his relatively recent business, and monthly in the Cottage Market in Monaghan town. It is hoped to expand the number of stockists in the next number of months, but watch out for it…. or pop into the fish shop in Blayney, it would be a fantastic treat for your St Patrick’s Day lunch.
