Well done to local fledgling business “Sheskin Smoked Salmon” who participated in the Monaghan finals of “Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur” on Thursday 7th December 2017. Chefs Patrick Armitage originally from Lisnakea, and his wife Zoe, now live in Sheskin, Scotstown, occupying the home of his great uncle, Patsy Beggan, and they won the County Monaghan award for the “Best Business Idea Co. Monaghan 2017/2018” for their Sheskin Smoked Salmon. Their small business project is a hot smoking business that specialises in ‘Candied Salmon’- a product traditionally produced on the west coast of North America. The prize in the competition is a financial investment and targeted business supports to turn the business into a reality. Patrick and Zoe now go forward to the Regional Finals of the “Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur” competition in the new year. In total 93 County Winners will progress to the Regional Finals. Each Regional Finalist will receive additional mentoring and business support prior to making a pitch to the Regional Assessment Panel. In total 24 Category Winners will be selected to progress to the National Final in April 2018. Also among the winners were Seany McKenna of World Food Porn and Steve Murphy of Old Carrick Mill who finished top of their respective categories. The competition is open to those between the ages of 18 and 35, with a share of €50,000 in investment up for grabs in each county. We wish them well, and look forward to lots of locally produced smoked salmon on the supermarket shelves very soon.
