Congratulations to the pupils from St Dympna’s School, Tydavnet, who participated in the Peace Proms 2017 concert in the RDS on Sunday 5th February with the Cross Border Youth Orchestra. The students had attended choral rehearsals in preparation for the event, where they worked with acclaimed conductor and music educator Greg Beardsell. It was an outstanding high energy concert which included a variety of music from ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, to a 90’s House Dance Club Mix. Also participating were a spectacular array of champion dancers from the Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dance in Belfast and the Rooney, O’Malley, Maguire School of Irish Dance in Newry as well as champion solo Bagpiper Grahame Harris and the World Champion Colmcille Pipe and Drum Corps from Derry/Londonderry. Along with all-Ireland champion Uilleann Piper Cormac Keegan, the audience was blown away by virtuoso rock-violinist Patricia Treacy, tenor Eoin Hynesby, and power-house vocalists Zena Donnelly and Emyvale’s own outstanding contemporary musician and singer/composer Lauren Murphy.
