When? Tuesday and Wednesday 6th and 7th October.
What’s included? You will be staying in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow town and visiting the jewels of Wicklow; Powerscourt, Russborough House, Mount Usher gardens, Glendalough and Wicklow Gaol. On the trip you will cross the Sally Gap and see the beautiful scenery of Wicklow. Total cost is 190 euro (single supplement 30 euro) for two nights B and B and two dinners. Tea and scones will be available each day. Lunch is not included but there will be an opportunity to get lunch each day. Entrance into all of the above is included in the price.
Payment can be made by leaving it in an envelope with your name and contact details in the U3A box, Age Action shop, Glaslough St, Monaghan before Monday 21st September or by leaving it up to our new headquarters (above the former site of the Garage Theatre) on the St. Davnet’s campus on Monday 21st at 2pm to 3pm. Please indicate whether you want a single room or if sharing, indicate with whom you are sharing so that rooms can be allocated correctly. Our Official Opening will be on Thursday October 1st at three o’clock. Heather Humphreys, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will officially open the new premises. All members are invited to what should be an interesting afternoon of viewing our new premises and meeting members. Refreshments will be available and an enjoyable afternoon is anticipated. Computer classes for beginners and learners start in the Library, Monaghan, on Friday 18th September at 11 am. All members are welcome to join in and we would be happy to welcome new tutors too.
Book Club: We had a very successful meeting of the Bookclub and welcomed in some new members. The book we are currently reading is ‘All the light we cannot see’ by Anthony Doerr. Our next meeting will take place on our own campus, St. Davnet’s campus, above the HSE Stores, on Thursday 15th October at 2.00pm
Texts: Members have been receiving notification of events via text. However if you have not received a text concerning Walks etc, please text 0873432275 with your name and contact number and you will be updated to receive future texts.
Flower arranging, in our rooms, begins on Tuesday 13th October at 8.00pm and follows fortnightly until November 24th.
Chess will begin Monday 26th October 2.00pm – 4.30 in the St. Davnet’s rooms.
Coffee morning every Thursday in Savoir Faire in Graham’s.
Walking Group. Every Wednesday. Wednesday 23rd September, Emy lough. Meet at Emy Lough car park, 10.30 am
Bowls: Bowling every Monday at 8.00 in Knockatallon Hall.
Dates for other events: French classes will resume in October. Tai Chi/Pilates will begin on Tuesday 13th October at 3.30pm and will run for six weeks. Spanish will begin mid October, Wednesday afternoons. Yoga classes will be available from mid October. We also hope to start up a film appreciation group again beginning mid October. Cards,(45s) will resume late October. Anyone interested in specific classes, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
Keep in mind the 23rd October for our one day Conference on Climate Change. The day promises to be informative and lively with quite a few interesting speakers such as ‘Grandparents for a safe earth’ from Bristol and ‘Raging Grannies’ from the USA. As well as the speakers there will be a forum for discussion and entertainment in the evening.
